Ski Season is Here

It's official. Ski season has begun in the US. Last week Loveland beat Arapahoe Basin by a few days in their annual race to get the most publicity for opening one run.

Check back in two months when one of the mid-Atlantic hills decides to open a terrain park and bunny slope for a weekend before they have to shut down for two weeks after having their 4 inches of snow washed away from rain.

Welcome

OK, I've decided that I want to give this blogging this a try. Why? I'm not really sure. I guess just for something to do. I've always enjoyed writing and figure this is a pretty good way to continue with that. I still have not given into the Facebook and Twitter phenomenons. For whatever reason this seems like a more dignified way to force my options and thoughts onto others who really shouldn't care what I think.

What will I discuss in this blog? I hear that I'm supposed to create a niche and reach out to a core audience if I ever hope of getting anybody to read this thing, so for that reason my "focus" will be on skiing, in particular on life as a skier in the Mid-Atlantic. I'll try to keep on topic, but I'll be honest, I see myself going all over the map at times, especially since the ski season here usually lasts all of 2-3 weeks and you can only write so much on the topic.

Who am I? I'm a [not for long] twenty-something male living in Northern Virginia who's been skiing for almost 20 years. There was a while, mainly while I was in college, that I didn't get out much and lost some interest in the sport, but for the last 4-5 years the passion has been renewed - mainly because I've been fortunate enough to get some days on the slopes out West.

If anybody other than my parents and fiance ever read this, I hope you find some entertainment in my posts whether you agree with what I have to say or not. If you are my parents or fiance - sorry, you have to at least pretend to enjoy this. For the rest of you, I'm fine if you don't like what I have to say or think that this this blog is a train wreck. It's worked out well for Jim Rome - I don't think that I've ever met somebody who doesn't think that he is incredibly annoying but people still tune into his show because they like to get fired up and be annoyed.
